3 advisers in Rangamati to assess situation
Three advisers to the interim government arrived in Rangamati on Saturday to assess the current situation.
The delegation included Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma, and Local Government Adviser AF Hassan Ariff.
After landing by helicopter at the Rangamati circuit house, they attended a meeting at the cantonment.
They will monitor the situation and exchange views to maintain law and order in the district.
Following their visit to Rangamati, the advisers departed for Khagrachhari.
However, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus stated on his verified Facebook page on Friday that, "The government is deeply saddened and distressed by the ongoing assaults, attacks, and loss of life following the lynching of a person on September 18. All law enforcement agencies have been directed by the government to exercise maximum restraint and ensure the safety of everyone living in the three hill districts."
Earlier, clashes in the two hill districts had left four people dead and scores injured as of Friday afternoon.
