Chashi Nazrul Islam passes away

Eminent filmmaker and freedom-fighter Chashi Nazrul Islam is no more. He passed away at a city hospital Sunday at around 6 am after suffering from liver cancer and other complexities.
He was 74.

He was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit on Wednesday on deterioration of health condition after had been admitted to the Hospital few days back.

Ekushey Padak and National Film Award winner Chashi Nazrul Islam was born in October 23, 1941 in Bikrampur of Dhaka.

He started his career in 1964 in television. In 1971, Chashi actively participated in the war of liberation. After the liberation of Bangladesh, he made the film ‘ora egaro jon’, the 1st one on liberation war in independent Bangladesh.

He also made films like Shongram, Hangor Nadi Granade and Megher Pore Megh based on stories of our liberation war.

His other noted works are Debdas, Shubhoda, Padma Meghna Jamuna, Hason Raja, Shasti and Shubha. He was well known for adapting classic Bangla literature into celluloid.

Chashi Nazrul Islam won Ekushey Padak in 2004 for his contribution in film sector.
