Case filed over lynching youth at DU

A case has been filed over the lynching of a young man inside a hall of residence at Dhaka University.

Mohammad Amanullah, superviser at the university’s estate office, filed an FIR with the Shahbagh police station in this connection.

The complaint was recorded as a case on Thursday afternoon, said the police station’s officer-in-charge, AKM Shahabuddin Shaheen.

According the FIR, some students caught a youth named Tofazzal at the gate of Fazlul Huq Hall on Wednesday night (September 18) suspecting him to be a thief and beat up him with stumps, hockey sticks and sticks, leaving him unconscious.

Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead.
