Former Jatrabari OC Abul Hasan put on 7-day remand
A Dhaka court has placed former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the capital’s Jatrabari police station, Abul Hasan, on a seven-day remand in a case filed over the killing of school student Md Sakib Hasan.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Arifur Rahman passed the order after the Inspector of the police station, Mozahidul Islam, produced him before the court with a ten-day remand prayer.
Abul Hasan was arrested from Teknaf thana area in Cox’s Bazar on Monday and flown to Dhaka.
On September 2, Abu Bakar, Convener of ward no 33 of Sramik Dal’s Dhaka city unit, filed the case with Jatrabari police station.
According to the case statement, 3,000 to 4,000 leaders and activists from the Awami League, Juba League, and Swechasebak League, along with police members from Wari and Jatrabari police stations, attacked students and civilians during the anti-discrimination student movement in the Kazla area of Jatrabari on July 18. Armed with homemade weapons, sticks, iron rods, and pistols, they carried out the attack, resulting in the death of Sakib.
