194 ‘deprived’ bureaucrats want promotion to joint secy

Some 194 'deprived' bureaucrats of 25 cadres of the Bangladesh Civil Service, BCS, have been demanding their promotion to the post of joint secretary.

To press home their demand, they met with the senior secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, and Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain on Tuesday.

Though the officials of adminstration cadres have been promoted in phases, bureaucrats of other cadres have only been given assurance, they said.

They claimed the Public Administration Ministry has been dilly-dallying about their promotion.

"We are 194 deprived deputy secretaries of 25 cadres from 13th to 22th BCS except administration cadre. Those who became deputy secretary along with us, most of them were elevated to the posts of joint secretary or additional secretary," said Nurul Amin, deputy secretary of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry.

"We met with the officials of the Public Administration Ministry on several occasions and made them understand about the rationale of our promotion but the ministry has been dilly-dallying," he added.
