Shyamal Dutta remanded in murder case
A Dhaka court has placed Shyamal Dutta, Editor of Bhorer Kagoj, on a seven-day remand in connection with the murder of a youth named Fazlu.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Sanaullah granted the remand after the investigation officer of the case produced him before the court seeking a ten-day remand for him.
Earlier, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta, Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel Haque and two others were detained by locals while allegedly attempting to flee into India illegally through the Dhobaura border in Mymensingh early Monday.
Additionally, Shahriar Kabir, President of the Advisory Council of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, was arrested from his residence in Banani, Dhaka, on Monday night.
Fazlu suffered bullet injuries during a victory procession in the Bhashantek thana area following the fall of the government on August 5. He later died on September 11. Fazlu’s brother, Sabuj, filed a case naming 165 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Shyamal Dutta.
