A Dhaka court has placed Mozammel Haque Babu, CEO of Ekattor Television, and Shahriar Kabir, President of the Advisory Council of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, on a seven-day remand each in a case filed over the killing of housemaid Liza Akter.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the order after the investigation officer of the case produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand for each of them.

Earlier, Shahriar Kabir was arrested from his residence in the capital’s Banani on Monday night. Mozammel Haque, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta and two others were detained by locals while allegedly attempting to flee into India illegally through the Dhobaura border in Mymensingh early Monday.

Liza was killed by a gunshot during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Her father Md Joynal Shikder filed a case against Sheikh Hasina and 173 others.

According to the case statement, bullets were fired in the area under Ramna Police Station with both direct and indirect participation from the accused. The incident resulted in injuries to both students and civilians. Later, on July 22, Liza, who had been shot, was declared dead.
