Former Railways Minister Sujan arrested
Former Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan was arrested on Monday night.
He was arrested from the room no 833 of Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli.
Md Faruk Ahmmed, Officer-in-charge of Jatrabari police station, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said that a case has been filed against him. Further legal action is under process.
Sujan ran as an Awami League candidate in the 8th National Parliament election in 2001. He was defeated by BNP candidate Mozahar Hossain, who won the Panchagarh-2 seat.
In 2008, Sujan was elected as a Member of Parliament in the 9th National Parliament election. He was re-elected in 2014, defeating Jasd candidate Emran Al Amin in the 10th National Parliament election. Sujan won his third term in the 2018 11th National Parliament election and subsequently assumed the role of Minister of Railways in the new government.
Born in 1956 in Maidandighi, Boda Upazila, Panchagarh, Sujan studied law at Dhaka University. While at Dhaka University, he served as the Secretary of the DUCSU Science Auditorium Affairs and was a member of the university’s Senate.
Additionally, he is a senior lawyer at the Supreme Court and was also involved as a lawyer in the Bangabandhu assassination case.
