Restaurant worker murder: Noor, Ali sent to jail
A Dhaka court has sent former minister for cultural affairs Asaduzzaman Noor and former state minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali to jail in a case filed over the murder of restaurant worker Siam Sarder in Mirpur.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharrof Hossain passed the order on Monday after police produced them before the court, seeking confinement in jail in the case.
Earlier on Sunday night, the detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested former minister for cultural affairs Asaduzzaman Noor and former state minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali from different locations of the capital.
According to the case statement, Siam would work at Rabbani Hotel and Restaurant in Mirpur. He was injured by a gunshot while returning home during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. He was later taken to a hospital where the doctors on duty declared him dead.
Siam’s father Sohag Sarder filed a murder case with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on September 4. The court recorded the statement of the plaintiff and ordered Mirpur police station to file it as first information report.
Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and 113 others were accused in the case.
