Four people, including Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel Haque Babu and Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta, were detained by locals while allegedly attempting to flee into India illegally through the Dhobaura border in Mymensingh on Monday.

The other two detainees are Ekattor TV’s senior correspondent Mahbubur Rahman and the driver of the private car, Selim.

The locals detained them with a private car from the border area between Dakkhin Maijhpara and Porakanduliya and handed them over to the police around 6am.

Md Chan Mia, Officer-in-charge of Dhobaura police station, confirmed the matter to Jago News.

He said, the detainees are under police custody now. A legal action is under process in this regard.

Earlier on August 6, the Akhaura Immigration authorities in Brahmanbaria stopped and sent back Shyamal Dutta, also General Secretary of Jatiya Press Club, while he was attempting to travel to India.

He, along with his wife and children, was trying to cross into India through the Akhaura land port. However, the authorities sent him back due to a travel ban, according to an immigration source.
