5 bodies recovered after trawlers capsize in Bay

Bodies of five fishermen have been recovered while five other persons are still missing after six fishing trawlers capsized in a storm in the Bay of Bengal in Cox's Bazar on Friday.

Among the deceased, three were identified as Mohammad Jamal, 37, Nurul Amin, and Mohammad Abdul Karim, 35.

Of the bodies, two were recovered from Laboni Point on Friday, one from Nazirartek Point on Saturday morning and two from Inani beach this afternoon.

Tanveer Hossain, executive magistrate (tourtist cell) of the district administration, confirmed the matter of deaths.  

Earlier on Friday, the incidents of trawler capisize occured at Inani Point and Laboni Channel.

Delwar Hossain, general secretary of Cox's Bazar district fishing trawler owners' association, said they could not contact 65 fishing trawlers till Friday night due to bad weather.

Some 62 trawlers managed to return this morning but three of Sadar area carrying 64 sailors and fishermen are still missing, he said, adding that efforts are underway to rescue them.
