Two more people who were injured in the explosion and subsequent fire at the SN Corporation shipbreaking yard in Sitakunda, Chittagong, died at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Saturday morning, raising the death toll from the blast to five. 

The deceased were identified as Jahangir Alam, 48, son of Abed Ali, of Kawkhali upazila in Pirojpur, and Barkat Ullah, 23, son of Ayub Ali of Chattogram. 

They passed away while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the institute between 6:00 am and 6:20 am. 

Tariqul Islam, resident physician of the institute, said Jahangir suffered 70 per cent burn injuries, while Barkat sustained 60 per cent. 

However, two more individuals are undergoing treatment at the institute. They are Anwar Hossain, 50, with 25 per cent burns, and Al Amin, 36, with 80 per cent burns. 

Earlier on September 7, the explosion occurred at the SN Corporation ship-breaking yard, owned by Shaukat Ali Chowdhury, located on the sea coast in the Shitalpur Tentultala area of Sonaichari Union, Sitakunda Upazila. Twelve workers were burnt and seriously injured in the incident.
