4 workers die in Bogura container blast

Four workers died and three others received injuries after an oil container exploded in Sherpur of Bogura on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Md Imran Hossain, 32, Mohammad Abu Sayeed, 38, Md Monir Hossain, 28, and Rubel Ahmed, 31, from the officers’ colony in Syedpur municipality of Nilphamari.

The incident occurred at Majumder Products Limited in Bhabanipur union’s Sonka around 12:30pm.

Ranjan Chakrabarty, human resource (HR) officer at the company, said the explosion happened when seven workers were repairing a container of producing rice bran oil, leaving them seriously injured.

They were first taken to Sherpur upazila health complex and later, referred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where four were declared dead, said Bogura Upashahar police outpost’s assistant sub-inspector, Md Lalan Mia. 

Sherpur Fire Service station officer Bakhtiar Uddin said they initially assumed the explosion might have happened due to high temperature.

The bodies would be handed over to their families after conducting an autopsy, Sherpur police station’s officer-in-charge Rezaul Karim Reza said, adding that a process is underway to file a case in this connection.
