Ex-DMP chief Asaduzzaman Mia on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted police seven days to interrogate former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Asaduzzaman Mia, in a case over the murder of a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader in police custody around a decade ago.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam passed the order on Thursday after the police had produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

The Rapid Action Battalion arrested Asaduzzaman Mia in the capital’s Mohakhali flyover area on Wednesday night.

Md Nuruzzaman Jony, former general secretary of Khilgaon Thana unit Chhatra Dal in the capital, died in police custody in Khilgaon area on January 20, 2015.

After around a decade, his father Yakub Ali filed a case with the Khilgaon police station on September 3, 2024, in this connection.

Asaduzzaman Mia is the 12th accused in the case.
