Former Chattogram-6 MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury has been detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while attempting to flee to India illegally via the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria.

Md Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer at BGB Headquarters, confirmed the detention to Jago News on Thursday.

He said that former MP Fazle Karim was detained by the BGB while illegally crossing the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria to enter India. Two other individuals were also detained.

The other detainees are Md Hannan Molla, a former union parishad member from Nurpur in Akhaura, and Md Nayeem Chowdhury, a local resident of Akhaura and a member of a human trafficking gang.

Procedures are ongoing to hand over them to Akhaura police station, he added.

It is reported that he had been in hiding since the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government. Several cases have already been filed against him in Chittagong and Raujan.
