Ctg shipyard blast: Death toll rises to 3 as another victim dies
The death toll from a fire following an explosion at a ship-breaking yard in Sitakunda upazila, Chattogram, has risen to three, as another victim died on Wednesday night.
The deceased, Md Habib, 35, suffered from 45% burn injuries.
He died while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) around 10:00 pm.
Himel, the brother-in-law of the deceased, said that Habib, the son of the late Farid Uddin from Jamalpur Sadar upazila, joined the shipyard as a foreman three years ago. He would live with his family in Chittagong.
Tariqul Islam, resident physician at SHNIBPS, confirmed the death.
He said five other injured people who suffered burn injures are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The are: Barkat Ullah, 23, with 60% burns; Anwar Hossain, 50, with 25% burns; Al Amin, 36, with 80% burns; Jahangir Alam, 48, with 70% burns; and Abul Kashem, 39, with 70% burns.
The explosion occurred around 12:30 pm on September 7 at the SN Corporation ship-breaking yard, owned by Shaukat Ali Chowdhury, located on the sea coast in the Shitalpur Tentultala area of Sonaichari Union, Sitakunda Upazila. Twelve workers were burnt and seriously injured in the incident.
