Act to stop border killings, adviser orders officials
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has directed authorities concerned to take immediate measures to prevent the killing of Bangladeshis along the border.
He made the statement while addressing journalists following a meeting on Durga Puja law and order at the ministry on Tuesday (September 10).
In response to a question about border killings, Chowdhury said, “There was some discussion about the issue. I have instructed the authorities concerned to take steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. I am hopeful that we can prevent these tragedies moving forward.”
He further added, "I urge all of you in the media to assist in raising awareness so that these incidents do not happen again."
Additionally, Chowdhury highlighted a recurring issue during Durga Puja, stating, “We often see people crossing the border to participate in Puja festivities, with visitors coming from both sides. I have requested everyone to ensure that people from our side do not cross the border, and those from the other side do not come here. Special measures should be taken at puja mandaps in the border areas to prevent this.”
