Abu Sayed murder: 2 cops on 4-day remand

A Rangpur court has placed two police members on a four-day remand each in a case filed for the murder of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayed.

Judge Asaduzzaman of Rangpur Metropolitan Tajhat Cognizance Court granted the remand for Assistant Sub Inspector Md Amir Ali and Constable Suzon Chandra Roy.

Confirming the matter to Jago News, Rukunuzzaman Rokon, the plaintiff’s lawyer, said the two police members were produced before the court with five-day remand prayer each. The court later granted four-day remand for each of them.

On July 16, Abu Sayed was killed by police gunfire during a protest demanding quota reforms in government jobs.

On August 19, his brother Romzan Ali filed a case accusing 17 people including the two police members. The two were suspended and attached to police lines on August 3.
