Adviser skips commenting on President's 2nd home
Touhid Hossain, the foreign affairs adviser of the interim government, avoided commenting on the sensitive topic of President Mohammed Sahabuddin’s alleged 'second home' in Malaysia.
Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (September 9), he said this issue falls outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' scope.
When asked about the constitutional validity of the president owning a second home in Malaysia and whether the ministry would investigate the matter, Touhid Hossain said, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has no role in this. Speculating won't help, and it's not our place to get involved at this stage."
He further added that any legal inquiries into the matter should be handled by the appropriate authorities.
Responding to questions about whether the president holds Malaysian citizenship and if the ministry would ask the Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia for clarification, the adviser firmly stated, "We won’t approach the embassy based on speculation."
The discussion surrounding the president's second home gained traction following a Facebook post by UK-based journalist Zulkarnain Sayer.
The post, shared on his verified Facebook page, featured images and raised questions about President Sahabuddin’s overseas wealth, sparking widespread social media debate.
