Production halts in 90 Ashulia factories amid workers' protest
The Ashulia industrial area is once again facing unrest as at least 90 factories shut down on Monday due to demonstrations protests by garment workers.
While production continues in other factories, law enforcement agencies have heightened their vigilance to manage the situation.
Superintendent of Police Sarwar Alam from Industrial Police-1 confirmed the disruptions.
According to sources from the industrial police, several garment factory workers walked out this morning, leading to the closure of at least 90 factories. In response, the Army, along with RAB, Police, and BGB, has been deployed to control the situation and prevent any potential sabotage.
In a related development, former employees of Lenny Fashion, a garment factory that closed four years ago, demonstrated in front of the main gate of the old zone of Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ). They are protesting to demand the payment of outstanding dues.
The protesting workers claim that despite the factory's closure years ago, their wages remain unpaid. They have vowed to continue their agitation until their dues are settled.
Superintendent Sarwar Alam reported that 80-90 factories are currently closed due to the protests, while production is ongoing in the remaining factories. BGB and Army personnel are working alongside the Industrial Police to maintain order and manage the situation.
