The victim, 15-year-old Jayanta Kumar Singh, was fatally shot by the BSF while allegedly attempting to cross into India near Main Pillar 393 of the Dhantala BGB border on Sunday (September 8).

Jayanta was a resident of Fakir Bhita village in Baliadangi.

Jayanta's father, Mahadeb Kumar Singh, and another individual, Bangthu Mohammad, were also injured. They reportedly fled back into Bangladesh and are receiving treatment at a clinic.

The police and border guard officials are investigating the reasons behind their presence at the border.

Swarna was the daughter of Parendra Das from Kalanigarh village in the Paschim Juri Union of Juri Upazila, Moulvibazar. Parendra Das mentioned that his elder son lives in Tripura, India. Swarna and her mother attempted to cross the Lalarchak border into India on Sunday night with the help of two local brokers to visit him. As they neared the barbed wire fence, BSF opened fire, killing Swarna on the spot. Several others, including Swarna’s maternal uncle, were injured.

Her body remained at the scene until 4 p.m. the following day. Later, a team from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) visited the family and informed them that BSF had taken her body.
