14 pardoned Bangladeshis return from UAE
A total of 14 Bangladeshi migrants out of 57, who were granted pardon by the president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), return home on Saturday night.
Among them, one migrant arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka, and 13 others arrived at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram at 10pm
The coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Sarjis Alam, and Hasanat Abdullah received the migrant at HSIA.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Adviser’s Office said the first group of 14 Bangladeshi migrants who have been granted pardon by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates, are expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong between 7pm and 10pm on Saturday.
Earlier on 3 September, 57 Bangladeshis who were previously convicted by the UAE Federal Court were granted pardon by the UAE president.
On July 22, three Bangladeshi migrants were sentenced to life imprisonment, 53 others to 10 years, and one to 11 years for protesting in the UAE in solidarity with the quota reform movement.
