A man who was burnt in a fire following an explosion at a ship-breaking yard in Sitakunda upazila, Chattogram, on Saturday died early Sunday. Seven others who also suffered burn injuries are in critical condition and receiving treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute (SHNIBPS). 

The deceased was identified as Ahmed Ullah. 

The injured are: Barkat Ullah, 23, with 60% burns; Anwar Hossain, 50, with 25% burns; Al Amin, 36, with 80% burns; Jahangir Alam, 48, with 70% burns; Habib, 36, with 45% burns; Abul Kashem, 39, with 70% burns; and Khairul Islam, with 80% burns.

Earlier on Saturday, Dr. Rafiq Uddin Ahmed, head of the Burn Unit at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, stated that eight of the 12 people burned in the incident are in critical condition, having suffered burns ranging from 30% to 90%. They have been transferred to SHNIBPS for better treatment.

The explosion occurred around 12:30 pm on Saturday at the SN Corporation ship-breaking yard, owned by Shaukat Ali Chowdhury, located on the sea coast in the Shitalpur Tentultala area of Sonaichari Union, Sitakunda Upazila. Twelve workers were burnt and seriously injured in the incident.
