Azam appointed Bangla Academy DG

Writer and researcher Professor Mohammad Azam, a faculty member of Dhaka University's Bangla Department, has been appointed the Director General of the Bangla Academy.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued the appointment notification on Thursday, signed by Deputy Secretary Muhammad Ibrahim. According to the notification, under Section 26 (2) and Section 26 (3) of the Bangla Academy Act, 2013, Professor Azam has been appointed for a three-year term, effective from the date of joining, with the condition that he sever all ties with other institutions and organizations.

Born on August 23, 1975, in Hatiya, Noakhali, Azam completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in Bangla from Dhaka University. He later earned his PhD for research on the colonisation and decolonisation of the Bengali language.
