Yunus issues marching orders for government-wide reformation
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday issued ‘marching orders’ to the secretaries of all ministries and divisions to initiate and implement comprehensive reform programmes across every level of government.
“Consultation and input from stakeholders are essential when formulating these reform programmes,” Yunus emphasised during a meeting with top bureaucrats at the Chief Adviser’s Office. The directive was later outlined in a press brief released by the CA’s Press Wing.
Yunus called for the construction of a new Bangladesh grounded in honesty, dedication, and accountability, reflecting the aspirations voiced during the July-August uprising.
He stressed the importance of abandoning conventional thinking and adopting innovative approaches that prioritise public interest.
“The highest satisfaction of the common people must be achieved by eradicating corruption and streamlining services,” Yunus said, underlining the need for the optimal use of public funds.
He also urged authorities to ensure fair competition in public procurement and to remove all obstacles to transparency and accountability.
Yunus instructed all ministries and divisions to develop time-bound action plans for short-term, medium-term, and long-term reforms, emphasizing the need for a creative and citizen-friendly approach. These plans will be subject to regular evaluation and monitoring.
The Chief Adviser also highlighted the global interest and positive perception of Bangladesh following the student-led revolution, urging that this momentum be leveraged for the country’s benefit.
