50 factories closed in Ashulia amid workers' protests

At least 50 factories have been announced closed in Ashulia industrial area on the outskirts of Dhaka in the face of workers' protests over various demands.

The authorities have been forced to declare the closure of at least 50 factories from Baipail to Zirabo area after the ready-made garment factory workers staged demonstrations in front of the establishments on Wednesday morning, said Md Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Industrial Police-1.

Police are trying to keep the situation normal, he said.

Besides the industrial police, army and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel are working to control the situation.
