PMO becomes CAO, Yunus starts office there
Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser to the interim government, officially began his duties on Sunday at the Chief Adviser’s Office, formerly known as the Prime Minister’s Office, located in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the development to BSS.
The previous government, led by Sheikh Hasina, was overthrown on August 5, 2024, in a student-led revolution. Subsequently, on August 8, Nobel Peace Laureate and economist Prof. Yunus was sworn in as the chief adviser to the interim government. Until now, he had been operating out of the state guesthouse Jamuna.
The Prime Minister's Office was heavily vandalized on August 5, when former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country. Extensive repairs were undertaken over 15 days to make the premises usable for the new administration.
The office has since been renamed, with nameplates inside and outside the building updated to reflect its new designation as the Chief Adviser’s Office.
Security measures around the office have also been significantly enhanced.
