The death toll from the recent floods in 11 districts have risen to 59 with five more deaths reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

Of the deceased, highest 23 died in Feni, 14 in Cumilla, nine in Noakhali, six in Chattogram, three in Cox’s Bazar, one in Khagrachhari, Brahmanbaria, Lakshmipur and Moulvibazar each.

Besides, 54,57,702 people have been affected by the floods in 486 municipalities/unions of the 11 districts, the ministry said in a report on the flood situation on Saturday.

However, one person still remains missing in Moulvibazar, according to the report.

At least 3,93,305 people and 36,139 domestic animals have been taken to 3,928 shelter centres, the report said.

Some 519 medical teams are providing medical services in the flood affected areas.

The ministry informed that the flood situation in Cumilla, Feni, Noakhali and Lakshimpur are improving while it improved in Moulvibazar and Brahmanbaria.
