29 journalists face charges of ‘inciting mass killing’

A complaint has been filed against 53 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 29 journalists, with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) for allegedly inciting mass killing during the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement.

The complaint was filed on behalf of Golam Razzaque, the father of Nasif Hasan Riad.

Nasif, 17, a student of Class XI at BCIC College, Mirpur was killed in Shyamoli Ring Road in the capital on August 5.

Supreme Court lawyer Gazi MH Tamim submitted the complaint to the ICT Investigation Agency in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on Thursday.

Tamim said that the journalists who met with Sheikh Hasina on August 3 amd allegedly instigated her to carry out mass killings against the protesters.

In addition to the journalists, leaders of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance, former ministers, police officials, and teachers have also been named in the complaint.

The complaint alleges that under the provocation and planning of these accused, other individuals carried out mass killings and crimes against humanity, including torture, enforced disappearances, and murders, with the aim of completely or partially eliminating the protesters opposing discrimination.
