Over 1000 killed in student movement: Health adviser

More than a thousand people were killed in the recent student movement, and over four hundred others lost their eyesight.

Nurjahan Begum, the adviser to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, made this statement after visiting the injured policemen at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital on Wednesday, according to a press release from the ministry on Thursday. 

She announced that the government will take responsibility for the families of those killed in the movement and all injured individuals will receive treatment free of charge.

“We have contacted an American organization called the 'Seva Foundation' and sent them a list of individuals who have become blind or are experiencing eye problems,” she said.

She said, Seva Foundation informed us that they will bring doctors to the country for treatment as soon as possible. The injured will be treated at Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute, National Eye Science Institute and Hospital, Chittagong and Dinajpur Eye Hospitals.

The health advisor said We are in discussions with various donor agencies and have also contacted the World Bank to arrange for a team of doctors to come from abroad for proper treatment. We are working to make this happen.

During the visit, the Health Adviser spoke with the injured policemen receiving treatment in the hospital's surgery department and inquired about their conditions.
