Salman, Anisul put on 5-day remand in murder case

A Dhaka court has placed former Prime Minister’s adviser Salman F Rahman and former Law Minister Anisul Huq on a five-day remand each in a case filed for killing Sumon Shikder in the capital’s Uttar Badda during the quota reform protest.  

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nurul Huda Chowdhury passed the order on Thursday morning after police produced the two before the court with a ten-day remand prayer each in the case. 

According to the case statement, Sumon Shikder was killed when the accused opened fire during the quota reform protest in front of the Fuji Tower in the capital’s Uttar Badda on July 19. 

Later, Sumon’s mother Masuma filed a murder case against them. A total of 179 people including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were accused in the case.   

On August 13, Salman and Anisul were arrested from the Sadarghat area of the capital during an alleged escape attempt.

On August 14, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid placed Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman on 10-day remand each in a case filed for killing shop staff Shahjahan Ali in New Market area.
