Former Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). 

He was arrested in the Gulshan area of the capital during a drive on Wednesday night. 

Lt Col Muneem Ferdous, Director of the RAB’s Legal and Media Wing, confirmed the arrest. 

Earlier, the bank accounts of Tipu Munshi, his wife Malbika Munshi, and their daughters, Ananya Munshi and Trisha Munshi, were frozen. At the same time, the bank account transactions for their businesses were also suspended. 

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of Bangladesh Bank instructed banks to freeze their bank accounts in a letter on August 22. 

Source said, Dilruba Akter, wife of victim Muslim Uddin, filed a case against Tipu Munshi and 16 others with the court of Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Raju Ahmed Babu on August 27.

Muslim Uddin, a goldsmith, died after being shot in Rangpur during the movement for quota reform in government jobs on July 19.
