Attack on students, army: 388 Ansar members sent to jail
A Dhaka court has sent 388 Ansar members to jail in four separate cases filed over the attack on students and army personnel outside the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday night.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain passed the order on Monday after a hearing.
Sources in general registration wing of the court said the police produced 388 Ansar members, who were shown arrested in cases with Shahbagh, Ramna, Paltan, and Dhaka Airport police stations, to the court today.
Earlier this morning, Md Sarwar Zahan, deputy commissioner of Ramna Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, informed that the law enforcers detained 350 Ansar members over the attack.
On Sunday noon, the Ansar personnel blocked the five gates of the Secretariat in Dhaka, demanding the nationalisation of their job.
Around 9:30 pm, students from several halls of resident of Dhaka University gathered in Secretariat area following a news spread that Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, two key coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement, were confined by the Ansar members.
Later, the students and the Ansar personnel clashed, leaving 70 people, most of them students, injured.
The Ansar members attacked the army personnel deployed for maintaining law and order in Secretariat area and injured six ones, according to the Directorate of the Inter Services Public Relations, ISPR.
