Rickshaw pullers want battery-run rickshaws banned in 72 hrs

Pedal rickshaw pullers have given the government 74 hours’ ultimatum to ban the battery-run rickshaws on Dhaka’s main roads.

They gave the ultimatum after blocking the Shahbagh intersection for around two hours from 10:00am to 12:15pm on Monday.

They said the pedal rickshaws would get enough fare when the battery-run rickshaws were not allowed on Dhaka’s main roads. Now they get much lesser fare as the battery-run rickshaws are plying everywhere of the capital freely.

Mobarak Ali, a rickshaw puller, said they want the ban on battery-run rickshaws on the main roads to be reinstated. “Our demand is easy and it's solution also easy. So, we are giving the government 72 hours to do it,"
