Stable in Cumilla, flood situation likely to improve in Feni
There was no significant rainfall reported in the eastern districts of Cumilla, Brahmanbaria, and Feni, as well as in the Indian state of Tripura, over the past 24 hours.
Consequently, the water levels of upstream rivers have continued to recede, according to the Water Development Board's Flood Forecasting and Warning Center.
While moderate to heavy rainfall is predicted in the eastern and upper parts of the country within the next 24 hours, the flood situation in the Gumti river basin and adjacent low-lying areas of Cumilla is expected to remain stable.
In Feni, the flood situation is likely to improve in the lower areas, although it may remain stable in certain locations.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center released a notification on Sunday (August 25) regarding the river situation.
According to the notification, the upstream Gandachhara region in Tripura received 26 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, while other areas in Tripura also experienced varying amounts of precipitation.
Meteorological agencies have forecast heavy rainfall in the southeastern region of the country and adjacent uplands within the next 24 hours.
This could lead to increased water levels in major rivers such as the Sangu, Matamuhuri, Karnaphuli, Halda, and others in the Chattogram district.
In the northern region, the Brahmaputra-Jamuna river water levels are decreasing, while the Ganga-Padma river water levels are stable. The Teesta-Dharla-Dudhkumar river system in the northern region is experiencing normal flow, which is expected to continue for the next 48 hours.
