Metro rail back on track after 37-day hiatus

Dhaka's metro rail service resumed operations Sunday morning, marking the end of a 37-day suspension triggered by violence during the quota reform movement.

"Services began at 7:10am from the Uttara end, and everything is running smoothly so far," said MAN Siddique, managing director of the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), in a statement today.

However, the Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations will remain closed due to extensive damage caused during the unrest.

Following the interim government's directive to resume metro rail services by August 17 (excluding damaged stations), DMTCL encountered delays due to a work stoppage by approximately 700 employees.
