Nahid asks BTRC to provide free diesel for mobile towers in Feni
Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Adviser Md Nahid Islam on Saturday directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, BTRC, to provide diesel at free of costs to run generators for the mobile towers in Feni to keep these operative.
Though there is no electricity connection in Feni due to the devastating floods, the mobile network operators managed to keep 78 towers in operation through generators and for this, a lot of diesel is needed, Nahid said, according to a Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry press release.
That is why, the BTRC has been asked to provide necessary diesel to the generators run by the mobile operators to keep the mobile towers operative amid the flood situation, the adviser said.
BTRC this morning said around 92 per cent mobile towers in the district are still inoperative that disrupted the telecommunication services severely.
The lack of connectivity made it difficult for the army, BGB, navy, police personnel, Red Crescent members and volunteers to continue rescue operations and relief efforts.
