Troops rush to Feni's aid as floodwaters rise, choppers kept standby
The Bangladesh Army has joined forces with the Border Guard Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Coast Guard to rescue those stranded in the floodwaters of Feni.
Six army boats have been deployed in the flood-affected Fulgazi and Parshuram upazilas, while military helicopters are on standby.
The district administration has confirmed one death so far due to the flooding, which has been described as the most devastating in 40 years.
Heavy rainfall has exacerbated the situation, forcing people to seek refuge on rooftops as floodwaters entered their homes.
Many residents have been left without basic necessities, including food, water, and shelter.
Local authorities are working tirelessly to evacuate people to shelter centres, but the ongoing flooding has made it difficult to reach those in need.
The Fulgazi upazila nirbahi officer, Tania Bhuiyan, said that rescue efforts are ongoing, while the Parshuram UNO, Afroza Habib Shapla, reported that firefighters and students have been rescuing people from marooned areas.
In Chhagalnaiya upazila, 15 villages under five unions have been inundated, affecting around 400 families.
The Water Development Board sub divisional engineer, Md Abul Kashem, said that rivers in the district are flowing 86 centimeters above the danger level, indicating a critical situation.
