Govt replaces 12 city mayors with bureaucrats
The mayors of twelve city corporations have been removed from their respective posts across the country.
The Local Government Division issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday.
The government appointed administrators to oversee these city corporations in place of the removed mayors.
According to sources from the Local Government Division, the mayors have been removed under the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.
Local Government Division’s Additional Secretary Mh Sher Ali and its Director General Md Mahmudul Hasan have been appointed as administrators for Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation, respectively.
Divisional Commissioners from seven divisions have been appointed as administrators for the city corporations of Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal, Rangpur, and Mymensingh.
Local Government Division’s Additional Secretary AHM Kamruzzaman has been appointed as the administrator of Narayanganj City Corporation.
The Director General of the Bangladesh Rural Development Academy (BARD) has been made the administrator for Cumilla City Corporation while the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner has been appointed as the administrator for Gazipur City Corporation.
Earlier, 493 upazila parishad chairmen, 323 municipality chairmen, and 60 zilla parishad chairmen were removed.
