Probe into killings: UN fact-finding mission to arrive next week

The fact-finding mission of the United Nations will arrive in Dhaka next week to probe into killings during the recent student movement in Bangladesh.

UN Resident Coordinator Gwen Lewis told reporters following a meeting with Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Thursday.  

Gwen Lewis said the mission will come to Bangladesh next week for an inquiry. The UN itself will fund the investigation.

The meeting between The UN Resident Coordinator and the Foreign Adviser lasted for more than half an hour. 

Earlier on Wednesday, in a telephone conversation with Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim government, UN human rights chief Volker Turk stated that the United Nations would soon begin an investigation into the killings of protesters during the recent student movement.
