Intercity train services resume after 28 days

Intercity train services resumed on Thursday across the country 28 days after its suspension due to the movement for quota reform in government jobs.

Confirming the matter, Engineer Mohammad Saiful Islam, Eastern Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), said the train movement started at dawn.

Earlier on Tuesday, local, commuter, and mail trains resumed operations across the country while freight train movement began on Monday. 

On July 16, railway tracks were blocked in various areas, including Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, Feni, Mymensingh, and Rangpur, causing train services to be suspended for several hours. 

Train services were suspended on July 18 after the protests turned violent. The government later resumed services of local, commuter, and short-distance trains. However, train movement was suspended indefinitely following the announcement of a non-cooperation movement by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
