Shafiqul Alam, the Bangladesh bureau chief at AFP News Agency, has been appointed as Press Secretary to the Interim Government’s Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus with the status of a secretary.

The Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification appointing him on a contractual basis on Tuesday night.

The notification mentioned that Shafiqul will remain in office for the duration of the chief adviser’s term or subject to his satisfaction from the date of his joining.

He will get a fixed salary of Tk 78,000 and other benefits as well.

Shafiqul started his career as a sports journalist at Bangladesh Observer and later joined AFP in 2005. At AFP, he served as a correspondent for the first seven years and then as the bureau chief in Dhaka.

However, the government cancelled the contractual appointment of Shaban Mahmud, Press Minister of Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, India.
