Public holiday on August 15 cancelled

The advisory council of the interim government has cancelled the public holiday on August 15, the National Mourning Day.

The decision was taken in a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday evening, a press release said.

The interim government's chief adviser, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, presided over the meeting.

The Awami League-led government had been observed August 15 as the National Mourning Day every year to commemorate the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on the day in 1975.

The day had been observed as a public holiday.
