HC asks not to collect toll from ambulance

The High Court has asked the authorities concerned not to collect toll from ambulance on the roads, highways, flyovers, tunnels, ferries and expressways.

The court also issued a rule asking as to why collecting toll from ambulance should not be declared illegal.

The bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Md Bajlur Rahman passed the order on Monday after a primary hearing on a writ petition in this regard.

Monir Uddin, a Supreme Court lawyer, said he filed an application to the Road Transport and Bridges secretary, and chairmen of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority on July 7 not to collect toll from ambulance but no step was taken.

That’s why, he filed the writ petition, Monir added.
