Advisory Council takes key decisions including scrapping contractual appointments
The advisory council of the interim government made several key decisions on Sunday including the appointment of the governor and deputy governors of Bangladesh Bank and cancelling all contractual appointments in the government.
The meeting accepted the resignation letters of the current governor of Bangladesh Bank and the Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, said a press release adding that that a new governor of Bangladesh Bank will be appointed soon.
A search committee has been formed, comprising Muslim Chowdhury, Ahsan H Mansur, and Nazrul Islam, to recommend candidates for the vacant deputy governor positions at Bangladesh Bank.
A list of all contractual appointments is being prepared. While some disputed and controversial contracts will be immediately terminated, the remaining contracts will be phased out.
The council also decided to compile a list of all injured protesters during the recent uprising, with the government covering their full treatment costs. The health ministry will instruct all hospitals accordingly, and support will be provided to the families of deceased protesters.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to initiate consultations for the release of 57 Bangladeshis arrested and sentenced by UAE authorities for protesting in support of Bangladeshi students and citizens. If necessary, the Chief Adviser will personally engage with the concerned government.
The council also expressed grave concern over attacks on religious minorities in certain areas. The Chief Adviser will meet with representative bodies and other concerned groups to address and resolve these heinous incidents.
Additionally, the metro rail will resume operations on August 17, 2024 (Saturday). However, it will not stop at the damaged stations of Kazipara and Mirpur-10 until repairs are completed.
