42 RAB, police members killed in anti-quota movement: IGP

A total of 42 members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police were killed in attacks by angry mobs during the movement for quota reform in government jobs.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam said this while visiting the injured police members at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital in Dhaka on Sunday noon. 

In response to a question, the IGP said two RAB members and forty police personnel were killed in attacks by angry mobs when they went to suppress the quota reform movement.

He said that many police members were also injured in the attacks. Of them, 507 received treatment at Rajarbagh Police Hospital. Additionally, 27 police members are still undergoing treatment there, and one of them is in the Intensive Care Unit.

The IGP also said that the injured are being given maximum medical treatment. Besides, we have provided mental support and shelter to the families of the injured.
