Kashimpur jail superintendent withdrawn

Subrata Kumar Bala, senior superintendent of Kashimpur High Security Central Jail in Gazipur, has been withdrawn following the escape of 209 prisoners from the facility.

The Gazipur deputy commissioner, Abul Fate Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, confirmed this on Thursday morning.

Main Uddin was made new jail superintendent, he said.

On Tuesday (August 6), a mass jailbreak occurred at Kashimpur High Security Central Jail in Gazipur, where 209 prisoners managed to escape, and six were shot dead during the incident.

After the jailbreak at Kashimpur, tension is brewing at Gazipur District Jail as the inmates started demonstrating this morning.

Locals said they heard the sound of gunshots from inside the prison.
