Interim govt likely to take oath tonight
The interim government led by Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus is expected to take oath at 8:00 pm on Thursday.
Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman told reporters at the Army Headquarters around 5:45pm on Wednesday.
He said that Dr Yunus will return home on Thursday and he will receive him at the airport.
He also expressed hope that the swearing-in ceremony of the interim government will be held at 8:00pm.
General Waker mentioned that the interim government is likely to consist of 15 members.
Dr Yunus left Paris on Wednesday and is expected to arrive in Dhaka at 2:10 pm, according to the Yunus Centre.
However, the Dhaka Labour Appellate Tribunal on Wednesday cancelled the six-month jail sentences of Dr Yunus and three others in a case filed over labour law violations.
Earlier on Tuesday night, Dr Yunus was selected to lead the interim government. The decision was made during a meeting between President Mohammed Shahabuddin and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the platform behind the recent uprising.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday noon and left country amid the student movement demanding the resignation of her government.
