Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina remains in Delhi, where India is giving her time to consider her future plans, according to India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Jaishankar made the remarks while briefing leaders of all Indian political parties during a meeting in Delhi on Tuesday (August 6).

The meeting, convened to discuss the situation in Bangladesh, was attended by key figures including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

Indian media reports indicate that the safety and situation of Indian citizens residing in Bangladesh were also discussed. Jaishankar informed the leaders that New Delhi is in contact with the Bangladesh Army and is closely monitoring developments.

The Indian foreign minister outlined India's position on Bangladesh and the steps being taken. He mentioned that Sheikh Hasina is currently in Delhi, with India allowing her time to contemplate her next move. "She will inform the Indian government of her future plans, and New Delhi will make further decisions based on that," Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar also assured the leaders that the central government is monitoring the situation of expatriate Indians in Bangladesh. However, he noted that there are no immediate plans to evacuate them.

“We are keeping a close watch on the situation in Bangladesh. The government of India will take appropriate action in due course,” Jaishankar added.
