Students propose Yunus as interim govt chief

The coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have outlined plans for the formation of an interim government, proposing Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser.

This announcement was made by Nahid Hasan, one of the movement's coordinators, in a video message posted on Facebook at 4:00am Tuesday (August 6).

In the video message, Nahid Hasan stated, "We initially planned to take 24 hours to outline the formation of the interim government, but given the urgent situation, I am announcing the outline now. We have decided that an interim government will be formed with Dr Muhammad Yunus as the chief advisor. We have spoken with him, and he has agreed to take on this responsibility."

Nahid Hasan further mentioned, "A request will be made to the President to form an interim government with Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser. We will announce the names of the remaining members of the interim government in the morning. We want to see the government formation process initiated by morning."

Addressing the current situation, Nahid Hasan added, "Dear freedom-loving students, we are witnessing chaos and sabotage being carried out by fascists and their allies in response to our coup and revolution. There have been reports of shelling in various areas, attacks on temples, vandalism, and looting."

He continued, "We believe these incidents are intended to undermine the student uprising. We urge freedom-loving students to remain vigilant. Liberation students will also be on the streets to support law enforcement agencies."

Nahid Hasan emphasised, "Until the formation of the interim government, the liberating students must protect the victory. No form of government will be accepted without the students' proposal. We have made it clear before: no B-team government, no anti-people government, and no government supported by the army will be accepted."

Earlier, during a press conference in Tejgaon on Monday, Nahid Hasan announced, "Within the next 24 hours, we will propose an interim national government. This government will include student-citizens, professionals, and representatives from various parties, including civil society. We will announce the outline of the interim national government and the names of its members after ensuring representation from all sectors."

He iterated, "We will not support any government that is not proposed or supported by the student-citizens who have revolted. Whether it is an army-backed government or a President-ruled government under a state of emergency, such a government will not be accepted by the revolutionary students."
